Many motorcyclists search the internet for ways to restore a dull or scratched windshield. One of the most popular methods is motorcycle windshield polishing. In theory, it sounds simple – all you need is a polishing compound, a sponge, and a bit of time. In practice, however, it looks completely different. With over 10 years of experience in the production, reconstruction, and regeneration of motorcycle windshields, we can state clearly that: polishing rarely makes sense. polerowanie1 polerowanie2 polerowanie3

Why do we not recommend motorcycle windshield polishing?

Motorcycle windshields are made of plastics – most commonly plexiglass (PMMA) or polycarbonate (PC). Both materials are delicate and easily scratched. Theoretically, they can be polished, but in practice: the process requires extreme precision – too much pressure or aggressive products cause deformation, waves, and clouding, the effect is short-lived – the windshield starts scratching again after just a few weeks of use, the time and effort invested are not adequate to the result – polishing a windshield can take several hours, and the effect is barely noticeable, the windshield loses its optical properties – even slight deviations in surface structure can cause image distortion and reduced visibility. In summary: when polishing a windshield, it’s easy to ruin it and hard to fix it.

The biggest risk – optical distortions!

What often looks like a “nicely polished windshield” frequently has micro-discolorations and an uneven surface. The effects include: – light reflections at night, – a lens effect when viewed at an angle, – eye fatigue while riding, – possible issues during technical inspection. Machine polishing without prior experience carries particular risk – the windshield often ends up suitable only for replacement.

Examples of windshield structural damage that come to us:

– after using aggressive chemical agents

– after long-term exposure to UV radiation

– after permanent mechanical damage

– after applying protective varnish (intended to extend the durability of the polishing effect)

Instead of polishing – it’s better to replace or reconstruct the motorcycle windshield!

In our opinion, instead of wasting time, energy, and money, it’s worth considering windshield replacement or – in the case of rare and vintage models – its reconstruction. At the NEW WAY motorcycle windshield workshop, we have been producing fairings for classic and modern motorcycles for years, including custom-made projects.
